I hate people who don't do things in a methodical manner.
This is super annoying to deal with, especially at work. Today one of my co-workers passed 2 appointments to me because she's going on a vacation for a week (wish I could do that shit, hahahahah women right -_- Noooo I have too much work on my plate) and I asked her for details on the appointment. You can probably guess what happened.
Now, I have a particular way I go about doing stuff at work, particularly with all the email migrations we are doing right now. The End-of-Life for an email service is in the middle of the year coming up, and another email service is dropping at the end of the year. So we have a lot of people calling our support line and the support line making appointments for us, then we have to have our admin (coolest dude ever) research the appointment and look into what kind of migration it might be. I literally don't know how this co-worker is functioning right now because she is missing such vital information from the customer, she has to be just doing appointments by the brim of her pants barely.
So what I look for is:
How are they checking their email? If it's an Outlook client, what is the version of the Outlook client? (2007 is depreciated and does not work with Office 365 anymore, and 2010 soon will as well I'm sure, probably next year or the year after that) Typically this gets me the information I need about how they check their email. Most people using the "webmail service" we provide will say they use the web to check their email.
So, strike one. I ask her what clients if any these 2 accounts are using. She says Outlook for both. I ask what version. She looks at me and says "Uhhhh, idk." I ask her if she remoted into their computer to check. She says "Nope." Inside I am fueled with the rage of a thousand suns at this point because I know she didn't bother to gather any more information from the customer besides information she could see herself.
So the second thing I look for is where their domain is hosted. Typically these people have what we call "business-branded emails" that are something like user@business.com or something. Also typically, we can look up their domains and check where their domains are hosted using who.is. (Who.is is a fabulous tool for this kind of thing.) So I typically do that during intake with customers and tell them as such. "Oh, your domain is hosted with us, so that will make everything really easy!" It puts them at ease and lets them know they're in good hands. (Fuck Symantec products btw, but that's a story for another post I may write out after this one.) So in this case this was okay because I didn't need to ask her for this information, but I did anyway. She answered correctly so at least she did some work. That's typically all I ask because our admin lets us know where their email is hosted typically in the notes before the appointment. If he can't find it, then we do have to ask at least, and I think that's something she also does not do, but I don't know since it didn't come up in this instance.
HOWEVER.
I remoted into the second customer's computer because I was told by her that they were using the separate email service we indirectly host that is shutting down at the end of the year.
So with those, I typically remote in and do a .PST backup for the customer, and create a new mail profile, and import the mail back in. Typically it's a short process but some of those customers have like 20 years of flippin' email in their inboxes, but those tend to be far and few in-between. So I am typically able to get those done in a day, but they also cause the most stress for me because if they get additional emails in-between the time I'm able to change the MX record and verify their emails are working. I've been lucky so far with being able to skip some "unneeded" emails with customers but I am working to fix this issue with myself as well, to better learn the process to minimize missed emails and get things done in a timely manner.
Anyway, back to the point here, I remoted into the customer's computer and asked about their Outlook client and stuff. (I assume that most people know what "Outlook" is, and not the default Windows Mail client, or Thunderbird being referred to as "Outlook" but, that's definitely my mistake, which is why I usually remote in to verify what I'm working with, as in this case), and they said the client uses Outlook (I was speaking to their IT guy it seems). So I was looking for an Outlook icon on the taskbar or in the start menu, and the guy was like, "It's on the desktop." So I was like... okay? So I looked and it was the Windows Mail client that comes with Windows. I fucking rolled my eyes SO HARD and was like "Haha, this isn't Outlook, this is the default Windows Mail client." And the guy was just like "Yeah I guess so".
Like this idiot calls himself an IT guy for this company and doesn't fucking know this shit? Fucking please. PUHLEEEEAZE. I also have another similar story about another appointment of mine right now, but that's another separate post.
So I find out that they are indeed not using Outlook, and you cannot export mail out of the Windows Mail client through some googling while on the phone with them. So, STRIKE 2 MOTHERFUCKER. She didn't even remote in to verify. The guy was very hesitant and nervous the whole time so I guarantee you he said something like "Yeah, Outlook, whatever". Literally any hesitancy and I will remote in to verify what environment I'm working with.
So I basically had to do an intake call all over again. However they only needed one email from the EOL(End of Life) separately hosted email program, so I set them up for a migration in the Office Tool and let it run. Of course it finished, but I could have had it fucking done today. So now half my week next week is just fucking piled on with fucking appointments instead of the first couple days because of FUCKING PEOPLE WHO DON'T ASK PROBING QUESTIONS.
You bet your ass I'm telling the team lead to coach your ass on this shit. It's basic shit for the job we work in, why would you not do this? And they gave her control of a HUGE, HUGE account too that's extremely important. Of course I actually don't want it but like... we have 2 other experienced members who could be doing that one.
I dunno man, just... people are fucking stupid. I love my co-workers as people but goddamn they are some of the slowest sons of bitches...
Okay, back to Runescape Slayerrrrr and watching Domestic Girlfriend. I have some more input about Domestic Girlfriend but that can wait for another post as well.
